Tonight Peaches returns to Berlin’s HAU Theater where she tackled Jesus Christ Superstar earlier this year, but unlike that stripped-down one-woman show, Peaches Does Herself is a balls-out extravagasmic stage production: Half send-up of Mamma Mia!-style pop musicals and half rock concert (her touring band Sweet Machine backs her for many numbers), it amalgamates over twenty songs from her ten-year career into a quasi-autobiographical abstract narrative on love, sex and identity politics.
Aside from a spoken introduction in which a lecturer applies Foucauldian theory to “Diddle my Skiddle” (in German), the entire operetta is performed in song, dance and gesture by a diverse cast: trans porn actress Danni Daniels as Peaches’s swanesque romantic interest, Sandy Kane (the “Naked Cowgirl” of Times Square) as some sort of nympho fairy godmother-turned-competitor, electro-rocker Mignon, Joel Gibb of The Hidden Cameras, multimedia artist Angie Reed, newcomer duo Jolly Goods and an ensemble of dancers.

Never overshadowed, of course, is the dynamic Peaches, whether she’s wailing, spitting rhymes (and blood) or singing falsetto on a string-led rendition of “I Feel Cream”. All this, plus the standard fare like full-frontal nudity, oversize upholstered vaginae and MIDI laser harps.
If that’s not enough to get your clit swelling, Peaches’s Official Blog has offered some behind-the-scenes rehearsal footage with co-director Jeremy Wade and dramaturg Eike Wittrock. Tickets are available through the HAU site, but at press time, all shows except Friday’s appear to be sold out!
