Queer Southern hip-hop takeover

Yo! Majesty‘s current biography begins with “Ready to forget everything you thought you knew?” and ends with “get ready to forget everything you thought you knew!”
So, disregard that the Florida-based lesbian Christian hip-hop act was at one point a trio, ignore their Wikipedia entry stating that Shunda K quit over money issues, stop trying to make sense of the conflicting information found in online interviews, don’t read too much into the song titles of Shunda K’s solo album (which begins with “I am Yo Majesty”, yet leads into a track featuring formerly ex, currently current Yo! Majesty member Shon B, pictured above), and just head to Monster Ronson on Wednesday, August 10th to figure it out for yourself.
“Club Action” is the name of this concert and party presented by Cindy Wonderful (who also guested on Shunda’s record) with a headlining live performance from Y!M, also featuring MC Gaff E as well as DJs Electrosexual and Aurora Kiss…

Before there was Major Lazer, there was Rusty Lazer (above), DJ/producer of Big Freedia, the “queen diva” of New Orleans bounce music. A silver lining in the horrors of Hurricane Katrina was that a musical diaspora took place, bringing a wider audience to this regional flavor of uptempo, trans-friendly, call-and-response-based blend of hip-hop and booty.
Rusty has also worked with bounce figures Katey Red and Sissy Nobby, and having mixed a podcast for Diplo’s Mad Decent blog, perhaps it won’t be that long before Beyoncé catches on to bounce as well.
Rusty Lazer DJs Wednesday, August 10th for “Shade Inc.”, the hip weekly gay party at NBI, along with Dickey Doo and Kate Boss…
On Sunday, Austin’s Christeene will take the stage — or stripper pole, rather — at sex club Ficken 3000, for the sleazy, definitely not kosher “Pork” party. She’s a mess of genders and races, and her alter-ego Paul Soileau has caught a lot of flak for his allegedly transphobic, racist performance art. But there’s also a transgressive, possibly redeeming quality to Christeene’s raunchy rhymes.
Guest DJ Namosh will also be present as well as resident/host Prix. You might wanna bring some pepper spray and/or moist towelettes with you, because at this place, there’s always the slight risk you’ll be groped or peed on…
