After our recent endeavors more geared toward the dancefloor, we return to the .HBC theater on Saturday, January 21st at 11pm, for another cabaresque evening of sit-down entertainment.

Cyborg folk singer Islaja (Fonal Records, pictured above) will share the stage with fellow Finn Mimosa Pale on the singing saw for an exclusive collaborative performance laced with textured aural hypnotics, but venturing beyond their typical bounds of music.

Lightening and darkening the mood with their macabre blend of desperation and humor, chamber punk ensemble So Low Suicide (led by Australian songwriter Sasha Matteucci) will preview anti-love ballads, ghost stories and drinking songs from their upcoming album Raise the Dark Bird.

Our own Stella Veloce will bring a variety of loop and effects pedals to enhance her cello sounds for a collaboration with performance artist and vocalist Christiane Hommelsheim.

DJ Joey Hansom will present old-timey tunes on the gramophones in between the live acts. Anita Drink is the evening’s MC and hostess, presenting, performing and provoking audience participation with the graceful belligerence she is known for.

In addition to our kinetic talent, a number of international visual artists will display their work for the exhibition Eastern Europe in Drag, examining dress codes and gender codes in the political contexts of Poland, Ukraine and Belarus.

Finally, alternative sex shop Other Nature will purvey products for perverted pleasures, including eco-friendly dildos, vegan leather whips and locally tailored strap-on harnesses.
