As spring is in full bloom, Expatriarch and Q*Heroes are teaming up to transform 3 Schwestern (below) at Bethanien into Divine Heights high school, and whether you’re a grade-A student or a dropout, we welcome you to the Queer Prom, our first annual gender-bending Formal, on Thursday, May 24th.
So it’s time to put on your tuxedo or gown, or both! Bind your breasts or stuff your bra. Shave your legs or paint on a mustache. High heels or Footloose? Throw away the rules of gender and get Carrie’d away, because at Queer Prom, girls can Grease back their hair, and boys can look Pretty in Pink. And don’t forget the Hairspray for your wig, because things might get unkempt!
Performance artist Océan leRoy (above) – last seen in Mommy is Coming, screened at this year’s Berlinale – will serve as principal and host of the evening. Aside from the healrtfelt synth-pop from house band Nuclear Family (performing originals and a few prom classics), you can look forward to DJs Dickey Doo, Joey Hansom and DyCe playing your all-time favorite high school hits, as well as a photo booth to capture the memories.
All guests are welcome to enter the competition to be crowned Prom Drag Queen, Drag King and Androgynous Monarch, judged by our panel Gloria Viagra (below), Sookee and Alexander Geist, as well as a vote from the student body, determining who will win each of the three unique tiaras created by Persona Non Grata. And if you need a break from the action, step outside onto the terrace, or even sneak off to daddy’s car for some heavy petting. Tonight is the night to spike the punchbowl (with glitter? T?), stay out past curfew and break the rules of heteronormativity!
