Whether you’re into mustaches, beards or chest hair, CockTail d’Amore is the queer party that’s got it all. Oh, right, and some decent dance music too! Since launching last year, the Berlin-based night has attracted more bears than a clay pot of HUИNY.
CockTail d’Amore typically happens on the third Saturday of each month and is hosted by Boris — who’s also a resident DJ at the legendary Berghain — and imported Italian act Discodromo. And Expatriarch can reveal that later this year, the hirsute crew will launch their own eponymous record label. Continue reading for a brief Q&A with Discodromo’s Giovanni and to download the CockTail d’Amore remix of the 1970s Italian disco classic “Rumore”…

Expatriarch: What music releases can we expect from you guys next? Any other projects coming up?
Discodromo: The CockTail d’Amore rework for Los Massieras came out recently on Bananamania, and next up is a Discodromo remix for Dance Disorder, out later this month on BPitch Control. Also on the way are two Discodromo 12″s for Internasjonal: “Numero Uno” (including an Ichisan & Nakova remix) and “Build a House” featuring Hard Ton (including a Tensnake remix), as well as a few tracks coming out on Solardisco, Slow Motion and Discaire Records (the new label from San Francisco’s Honey Soundsystem guys).
Boris did a solo track for the upcoming Ost-Gut Ton compilation Fünf, and together we’re all going to launch our own CockTail d’Amore label.

Can you name one track that always gets a good reaction from the dancefloor, no matter where or when you play it?
Cos/Mes “Gozmez Land” (TBD remix) on ESP Institute:

Can you identify what’s special about Berlin’s gay/queer scene?
There’s so much freedom in this city that all the different kinds of fags, lesbians and trannies are pretty much happily mixed. Take our party for example: there are twinks, bears, freaks and even (a few) fashion people all having fun together, without creating ghettos within the ghetto like it would happen in other cities…
Cocktail d’Amore is off for the month of September, but will be back in action for October — join the Facebook group for announcements on date and location. Meanwhile, Boris plays at Berghain on the 25th of September, and Discodromo play this Sunday the 12th at Le Petit Pö and on the 9th of October at Star of Bethnal Green, London.
Finally, as some background info, here’s the theme song to the Italian television show Cocktail d’Amore sung by Stefania Rotolo (which is most definitely not representative of the kind of music that Boris and Discodromo play):

<itunes:summary>In less than a year, 19-year-old rapper Dominique Young Unique has climbed her way from blogs and local Miami press to nationally reputable sites Pitchfork and The Fader, and most recently even mainstream outlets like Rolling Stone and MTV have caught on. Fittingly then, her debut mixtape set for release this month on Art Jam is titled Domination.

What’s more is that Dominique and her producer/manager David Alexander are basically opening sourcing some acappellas and instrumentals to those who sign up for her email newsletter (check her on MySpace), so anyone is welcome to mess around with her sprightly rhymes or his vacillating (in a good way!) technicolor beats. DJ/producer Jay Haze — last seen remixing DJ Sneak, Telefon Tel Aviv and Gui Boratto — has contorted “Show my Ass” into a seven-minute synthetic whirlwind of drumline madness, likely to prompt some broomstick/ceiling lovetaps from your downstairs neighbors. Mr. Haze and Ellen Allien have already been including it in their DJ sets as of late, and now you can join in on the ass-shaking fun:

Producer/vocalist AGF (Antye Greie-Fuchs) and Berlin underground veteran Gudrun Gut have just cemented plans for their debut album as Greie Gut Fraktion: Baustelle (“Construction Site”) will arrive the 18th of June via Gut’s label Monika Enterprise and will be preceded by the single “Wir bauen eine neue Stadt” (“We’re building a new city”). The track is a cold yet shimmering bilingual reinterpretation of the song by early-80s NDW band Palais Schaumberg (which notably included Holger Hiller, Thomas Fehlmann and Moritz von Oswald among its members and was produced by Flying Lizards’ David Cunningham).
The maxi 12″ arrives on the 21st of May and starts off with a remix from sound sculptor Alva Noto, followed by a radio edit of the album version. The real draw for techno nerds will be the B-side dominated by Kompakt’s Wolfgang Voigt, resurrecting his Freiland moniker for two different piano-led versions. One has a Teutonic 4/4 and the other schaffel; both are decent but perhaps not on par with the vigor of G&G’s version (streaming at their MySpace), especially considering Voigt’s previous accomplishments.
Greie Gut Fraktion: “Wir bauen eine neue Stadt” (Wolfgang Voigt – Freiland Klaviermix 2)

Following the duo’s Berlin debut in March and their London appearance last weekend, Baustelle promises an alternative definition of the term “industrial music”, assembled largely from field recordings taken at construction sites. If those performances are any indication, the rest of the album should have a more abstract, less poppy feel than the lead single. Check Popkontext for more photos from their Berlin show.
